You’ll be flying over a pre-tagged region of the Moon.
The Moon’s surface will pass beneath you through a digital viewfinder as you race across the lunar landscape just above the mountaintops at an altitude of 6 km (3.7 miles).
The goal of your mission is to claim valuable lunar resources exposed by asteroid impacts. Claim water, metals (such as Magnesium Titanium) and Helium 3, by dropping flag markers into the craters.

Tutorial 1: Markers
To claim resources, tag likely looking craters by dropping a flag marker on them.
Sample resource rich craters have been outlined.
Tap a the middle of a crater to drop a marker on it. Try and be as accurate as possible.

Tutorial 2: Scanning
Next your orbitor’s scanners will remotely assess the amount of collectable resources inside the tagged crater.
Tutorial 3: Yield
Tagged craters are logged and your potential yield estimated for follow-up missions.
You can track your yield total at the top of the screen.
We’ve marked out a couple more craters for you to tag.
Tutorial 4: Energy
As you fly, drop flags and scan, the orbiter’s fuel cells are depleted.
Each marker you drop costs you a small bit of extra energy.
The goal therefore, is to collect as much valuable resources before your fuel runs out.
Tutorial 5: Refuel
Recharge by identifying at least 5 craters on this new image, by drawing a box around them.
Use the pan and zoom to to navigate and the tag tool to draw a box around the craters.
Once you’ve marked 5 craters you can scan the map to get a full charge.
Tutorial 6: Scan Craters
Great! You’ve marked out 5 craters, now you can fire off the crater scanner to collect the data from this map and finish up recharging the battery - tap the scan button.
Tutorial 7: Continue or Finish
Now the battery is recharged! In a normal mission we would let you keep flying, but this is the end of the tutorial mission - the last step is for you to log the run by clicking the pause icon in the top left corner.

Clean lunar crater data sets are hard to come by, yet necessary for traversing the surface of the moon. Intel partnered with the NASA Frontier Development Lab, a public / private research partnership between NASA and leaders in AI from the commercial sector, to create LunaRush, where space enthusiasts and citizen scientists help train lunar navigation systems using AI. In LunaRush your job is to tag the most promising craters to explore for resources. However, this isn’t just a game; the application allows users to flag raw lunar images from the LRO mission, providing real tangibility to exploration goals. The resulting tagged data will be used to improve lunar crater detector algorithms for utility towards future lunar resource missions.

Lunar Orbital Gateway
The year is 2033. The Moon is now open for business and a new ‘goldrush’ has begun - but this time the rush is for water and valuable metals.
You are stationed aboard the Lunar Orbital Gateway in orbit around the Moon, 383,000 Kilometers (238,000 miles) from Earth.
Your task: pilot a low flying orbiter, claiming as many resource rich craters as possible before your fuel cells run out.
